A project for a client allowed me to crisscross Iowa during caucus season late last year. I attended events, speeches, rallies and round table discussions for every candidate running for president (multiple times).
After Iowa, I traveled to few other primary states as the number of candidates began to dwindle. I have many stories to tell – like the frigid day in Charleston, S.C. when Mitt Romney mistook me for one of his Iowa staffers, or the mysterious government conspiracies two enthusiastic Ron Paul volunteers discussed (across my lap) despite the fact they knew “we are being taped by the FBI right now.”
Because of, or in spite of these experiences, my interest for our uniquely American political process is even stronger now than it was before Barack Obama was a household name and John McCain was just “that guy who challenged Bush in 2000.”
Over the next two weeks, I am going to travel to Denver for the National Democratic Convention and to St. Paul for the Republican National Convention. I plan to post some of my observances and a few musings in this spot a couple times a day. I hope you enjoy them.
