I Live in a World - Thanksgiving 2008

I give thanks for knowing, long before I open my eyes to the day, I live in a world where people love me.

I give thanks as the warm water takes its time to heat the shower for a house filled with the voices and laughter of my wonderful people.

I give thanks as I dress for the gift of another day and the opportunity to find excitement in the mundane.

I give thanks for the way my heart swells as I come into the kitchen and spy my wife.

I give thanks as I turn out of the drive for the safety that surrounds me in a chaos-filled planet.

I give thanks as I open my office door for being able to make friends out of strangers.

I give thanks for the chance to be on life’s path in this time and, even more, for being able to explore what exists beyond it.

At lunchtime, I give thanks my children are better people than I will ever be.

As I return home, I give thanks for knowing where serenity dwells as a driver races by me and runs a red light.

As I enter the back door, the smell of dinner overtakes me and I give thanks for the to do list that awaits me.

As I say goodnight to the kids, I give thanks for their love and the houseful of family who will be with us tomorrow.

As I get ready for bed, I give thanks just because my wife smiles at me.

As sleep takes control of my eyelids and I drift off, I give thanks I live in a world where people love me.
