Mr. President Veto the Credit Cardholder Bill

The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Sent via Fax 202-456-2461

Dear Mr. President:

The Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act of 2009 appears to be a sound piece of legislation, mostly, and is a hard fought victory for many. However, I urge you to veto this bill and send a strong message back to Congress that you are standing by your pledge to the American people to change political deal making in Washington. Tacking on unrelated language to allow concealed weapons in federal parks to this important consumer legislation is silly and represents Congress at its worst. Veto this bill.

I recognize that vetoing the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act of 2009 will be a painful step backward for those who have worked so hard to get it passed, but there is something even more important at stake here. Mr. President, you are America’s best hope for reforming what is broken in our Capitol. If you choose to overlook a special interest group’s perverted use of the law making process, you will break one of the most important promises you made to those who sent you to the White House, to put the people’s interests before the powerful few who can afford high-paid lobbyists. Say no to this bill and tell Congress to send you a clean bill that addresses this important problem alone. If concealed weapon legislation is so important to those who voted for it, let it stand on its own.

Mr. President, I recognize that vetoing the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act of 2009 will be a minor setback for you, but I and countless other Americans will stand with you and will do whatever we can to send a message to Congress that they must go back to work and pass a bill free of unrelated, backroom deals. Veto this bill and tell us what we need to do to help you help America stand up to Congress and the special interests who continue to control them.

Thank you and may you find the courage to veto this bill.
